WREXHAM rarely draw a blank and Phil Parkinson is looking for his side to rediscover its attacking threat at home to Torquay United on Saturday.

The free-scoring Reds made the trip to Southend United at the weekend on the back of five successive wins where 20 goals had been netted.

Parkinson’s men were the top scorers in the National League but created few chances and were held to a goalless draw.

Although he acknowledged how hard Southend had made it for his side, Parkinson wants an improvement from second placed Wrexham when they face the Gulls at The Racecourse.

“It was a hard fought point,” said Parkinson.

“We didn’t create as much as we normally do but it was a battling performance and we will take the point.

“First half we had some decent opportunities.

“We just got pinned in a bit during the second half and we need to look at that and see why we didn’t carry as much threat.

“You have got to credit the opposition but we have also got to look at ourselves and what we can improve on going into the game against Torquay.”

Although Wrexham were not at their best in the final third, Parkinson felt other qualities came to the fore at Roots Hall.

Southend were on top in the second half and had opportunities to score but solid defending kept the home side out and ensured Wrexham came away with a point to extend the unbeaten run to six games and stay one point behind leaders Chesterfield who also drew away at Yeovil, while Notts County dropped to fourth place after losing at Dorking Wanderers.

“There are elements of our game which we need to improve on at the weekend,” added Parkinson.

“But sometimes other qualities come out and I thought that happened.

“That bodes really well for the rest of the season because as other teams found away from home on Saturday, it can be a challenge at times for many reasons.

“We stood strong against Southend and got a point.”
