WREXHAM dug deep to clinch a point following a goalless draw against Southend United at Roots Hall.

Phil Parkinson's side produced their best performance of the season when they beat Dagenham and Redbridge 4-1 in the previous outing but the Reds were unable to match that display.

Neither side could take any first half chances and Southend were on top after the break, having a goal controversially ruled out.

But Wrexham's back-line held firm and although the five-game winning run came to an end, the Reds remain second in the National League.

Here's how the players rated:

MARK HOWARD: Was busier than against Dagenham and made a few vital saves to keep a clean sheet. 7

ANTHONY FORDE: Unable to make the same impact he has done down the right as Southend had better of the second half. 6

AARON HAYDEN: The Reds' defence was solid and dealt with most things thrown at them. 7

BEN TOZER: Southend dominated after the break but Wrexham's backline was resilient. 7

MAX CLEWORTH: The youngster continued his impressive start to the season with another assured display. 7

JACOB MENDY: Wrexham weren't the attacking threat they have been but showed glimpses down the left. 6

JAMES JONES: The Reds' midfield never imposed themselves on the game in the second half. 5

LUKE YOUNG: Made some vital challenges and interceptions as the Wrexham captain led by example. 7

JORDAN DAVIES: Close to a first half goal but had a quiet game. 5

PAUL MULLIN: Plenty of endeavour but a lack of chances for the Reds' leading scorer. 5

OLLIE PALMER: Had Wrexham's best chance but first half shot was brilliant tipped over the bar. 6
