PHIL PARKINSON doesn't want lightening to strike twice when his side face Southend United at Roots Hall tomorrow.

Wrexham go into the game on the back of five successive wins, leaving the Reds second in the National League and just one point behind leaders Chesterfield.

Confidence might be high at The Racecourse but Parkinson won't be taking the Shrimpers for granted following last season's corresponding fixture between the sides.

Southend made the early running and took the lead through Sam Dalby, who joined Wrexham in the summer, before doubling their lead early in the second half.

However, Wrexham hit back to earn a 2-2 draw and Parkinson wants his side to learn from that match.

"With Southend, we know from going there last year that you have got to be ready for action," said Parkinson.

"It is always a good atmosphere down there and the home team always start quick and from my memory of last year, we didn't really respond to that.

"We got back in the game and we have got to be ready.

"We will learn from that hopefully and put in a good performance down there and see if it's enough to get the points."

Wrexham head to Essex on the back of Tuesday's 4-1 win against Dagenham and Redbridge, producing a performance that Parkinson was delighted with.

"I am so pleased we are scoring goals," said Parkinson.

"I said to the lads at half-time that I wanted them to enjoy the game.

"Like I have said many times, it is not often as a player you get 10,000 supporters right behind you cheering every pass, every tackle.

"I want them to embrace that and really enjoy it; we are coming into these games at home and the lads can't wait to play, that is a great feeling and I want to keep that there."
