JACOB MENDY wants a big improvement so that Wrexham start picking up the wins they need to live up to expectations.

Since coming from behind to beat Eastleigh 2-1 on the opening day of the season, Phil Parkinson’s side have drawn 1-1 with Yeovil and then suffered a first defeat after going down 2-0 at Chesterfield on Tuesday.

Wrexham went into a 15th campaign in non-league as title favourites and summer signing Mendy, who joined from Boreham Wood for an undisclosed fee, knows victories are needed to get back on track and he hopes to serve one up when the Reds host Maidstone at The Racecourse on Saturday.

“I am enjoying it,” said Mendy. “It is a great group, the lads are great.

“It is a good team but we just need to start getting results.

“This is just the beginning, there are still a lot of games to play so hopefully we can start winning games.

“Everyone knows what we are capable of doing and we have got a lot of good players.

“We need to put everything together and go again on Saturday.

“We want to start winning and we are looking to do it as soon as possible, on Saturday.”

Parkinson admitted Wrexham weren’t good enough at both ends of the pitch against Chesterfield who took advantage of poor defending to score twice, and they could have led by more at the break.

The Reds failed to have a shot on target at the other end and Mendy added: “It was disappointing to lose because we want to be a winning team.

“No-one likes to lose so it is a tough one to take.

“We still need to get to know each other, there are new faces from last year, and we need to get better as a team.”

Mendy has been involved in all three opening games, with his one start coming in the Yeovil stalemate.

Having twice appeared as a substitute, including the opening day home win against Eastleigh, the 25-year-old is hoping for a first Racecourse start this weekend.

“I would love to start my first game at The Racecourse,” he added.

“The fans have been incredible so to play would be be brilliant.

“It is just the beginning for me too so I am hoping to help the team all I can.”
