WREXHAM produced a woeful performance against Chesterfield as Phil Parkinson's side suffered a 2-0 defeat at The Technique Stadium.

Despite a promising opening, the Reds were shaky at the back as the home side began to cause all sorts of problems.

Chesterfield capitalised on poor defending to take the lead and they scored a second goal before the break following a mistake by goalkeeper Mark Howard, and the Spireites could have led by more at the break as chances went begging.

Parkinson, who made four changes from the side that started Saturday's 1-1 draw in extreme hear at Yeovil, saw Wrexham huff and puff in the second half.

But it was Chesterfield who created more opportunities and going closest to scoring with Wrexham failing to have a shot on target all game.

Nearly 1,900 supporters and co-chairman Rob McElhenney were in attendance in Derbyshire but their side produced a forgettable display.
