PAUL MULLIN is in it for the long haul and saw no reason to leave Wrexham because he is so happy at The Racecourse.

The 27-year-old striker has committed his future to the club, signing a one-year contract extension with the option of an extra 12 months, which will keep him with the Reds until at least the end of the 2024/25 season.

After joining Wrexham last summer following a successful stint with Cambridge United, Mullin scored 32 goals in all competitions as Phil Parkinson’s men finished runners-up to National League champions Stockport County before losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi-final.

Mullin was Wrexham and the National League’s top goal scorer, earning him the club and division’s player of the season awards, and he was delighted to pen the new deal ahead of the opening game of the 2022-23 campaign as the Reds came from behind to beat Eastleigh 2-1 on Saturday.

“I was made up to get the new contract signed and out of the way,” said Mullin.

“It has been going on over the summer but I thought it was good timing to get it done before the first game, give myself and everyone a boost, and then look forward to getting back down to business.

“We won the first game of the season and we have got another 45 to go so hopefully I score as many as I can and we get as many points as we can.”

Mullin has been linked with other clubs, something that Parkinson admits was going to happen following the frontman’s brilliant first season in north Wales.

But leaving never crossed Merseyside-born Mullin’s mind because the fans’ favourites couldn’t be happier at Wrexham.

“I love it here,” said Mullin.

“If you do well in football, you would be well within your right to go and do different things.

“When you do well there is always going to be options or moving to different places, that is just the way football works and life in general.

“I didn’t want to go anywhere. I love it here and being close to home also helps so it was a no brainer wanting to stay.

“As I have said many times, there are not many places where the fans will treat you like they do me here.

“That is hard to find and to be happy in your job is also hard to find.

“This club is going to be successful and I want to be part of that.”

Mullin has set his sights on helping Wrexham get out of the fifth tier and continue climbing the football pyramid in the coming seasons.

“I want to stay at Wrexham for as long as I can and help them get back up the ladder,” added Mullin.

“I enjoyed the first year and after the first year it was miles too soon to even think about leaving because we have only just got started.

“The owners are really committed to getting Wrexham back to where they should be and I want to be part of the plans.”
