IT was the Elliot Lee show as Wrexham came from behind to beat Eastleigh 2-1 at The Racecourse on the opening day of the National League season.

The Spitfires took an early lead and proceeded to frustrate the Reds with their time-wasting tactics.

But summer signing Lee made an immediate impact as a substitute following his 63rd minute introduction.

The playmaker, who joined the Reds after leaving Luton Town, scored a superb equaliser before bagging a second goal to secure victory.

Here’s what supporters thought of Wrexham and their predictions for Saturday’s clash at Yeovil.

SION: “Eastleigh came out as expected, playing the dark arts is something they excel at. A lot of teams will have seen how they set up to try and frustrate us and do the same this season. Games like this we need Forde and Mendy down the flanks creating. Lee is magic. Beat Yeovil 2-1."

ANNETTE GARDNER: “Eastleigh made it difficult to play football. When we did we looked a handful. Elliot Lee was a game changer. I’m going for 1-3 Sat. Lee, Mullin, Mendi. Maybe add a screamer from Jordan.”

I’M DUMB VIRGO: “Lacked imagination in the first half, lucky to get away with all three points. Yeovil will be more of a challenge. We can’t keep giving teams a goal or two start and expect to win. I expect a draw on Saturday.”

STEVE DAVIES: “It didn’t look as if Parky had learnt anything from last year for the first 50 odd mins. Still no one in midfield to get a tackle in, they ran through us time and time again. We knocked long balls over the top again and again. Then we brought on a playmaker. Job done.”

LEE CHAMBERLAIN: “Need to fly out of the blocks and press for first 30 minutes, the longer it stays goalless the more confident the opposition become, sneak a goal it becomes harder. We are too predictable. 0-2 away on Saturday, Mullin and Lee.”

TOM: “We were the same as last season for 65 minutes. Struggle to break negative sides down. Elliot Lee was leagues and leagues ahead of anyone else on the pitch. 2-1 Wrexham on the weekend. Similar story to this weekend. Poor first hour then up the ante.”

NEAL: “Not a great performance, looked tired, went behind in the first half, late substitutions and we end up wining towards the end.”

KEVIN WHITE: “Why are people being so negative. It’s the first game of the season and we got three points. With the players we have are teams going to come to Wrexham and go toe to toe with us? No, they’re going to be organised, playing in a way to stifle us.”

RUSSELL RICHARDS: “I have to say I didn’t think we could play Davies and Lee in the same team but after Saturday I think we have to. First half I felt we fell into the trap that Eastleigh wanted us to but second half was improved.”

JO JEFFREYS: “Underwhelming, same frustration of lack of quality tempo and play as early on last season, until Lee come on and changed the game.”

DAVID MCMAHON: “Too many players thinking the game was going to be given to us. Second to most balls. Defending on some occasions was shocking but that comes from being overrun in midfield. Keeper and powerhouse midfielder needed asap. That said Elliot Lee take a bow. Wound up Mullin and Palmer.”

GWERSYLLT DRAGONS: “Still struggling in the same areas, making same mistakes but got the win. 2-1 Wrexham on Saturday.”

MATT: “Mendy offers more at left back, Lee has to play. The number 10 role he slotted into was vital. Everything changed the moment he come on.”

TIMLEWIS_FM: “A bit undercooked. Hopefully we’ll get back up to speed and fitness in the next few weeks. So refreshing to have someone come off the bench and change the game though.”

DAVE HURDMAN: “Last season points would have been dropped. So winning when not playing great and Lee the obvious bonuses. Thought Mendy looked like he’ll strengthen the XI at LWB. Difficult Sat because we can go there and win by four if it all clicks, but could lose if not on it, optimistic 3-1 win.”

DAN: “Wrexham started off looking nervy, slow in their build up play, switching it and moving the ball forward was too slow and predictable. Game changed when Lee was on the ball. This weekend Yeovil have to come out as the home team hopefully leaving more gaps at the back. 2-1 us.”

JOE JONES: “I thought we were really poor 1st half. Lee changed the game obviously.”

LUKE: “Finishing wasn’t clinical from Palmer, and Mullin trying to force it. Probably had more good opportunities than we thought but fluffed our lines a bit. Lee was the game changer. Gave the ball away too cheaply in midfield and from GK distribution.”

AARON JONES: “For 65 mins, much the same for periods of last season, struggling to link the forwards from midfield. PM and OP need more ball at their feet. Hopefully EL will provide it!!”

JOE: “Ponderous in moving the ball forward like last year. Can see an intention to stretch teams by playing across the field and switching the ball but it’s too slow. Midfield don’t involve themselves enough to allow transition to the FWDs. When they get frustrated, it turns to hoofball.”

RACECOURSE RAMBLE: “We were a little under whelming. I’m expecting more of the same this week performance wise. I’ll go 1-2 away win in another tight match.”
