WHILE they have brilliantly become the national champions, the best may still be yet to come from Hawarden Park U15s.

In a stunning performance at Aberystwyth, Park claimed a 45-run success over Swansea in the final of the U15s' Welsh Cup.

Making this triumph even more impressive is the fact that almost half of Hawarden Park's squad are eligible to compete in the event again next year.

"Our strength is in the depth," said coach Nigel Wilkinson.

"From that squad of 15, only eight are 15. We have got four who are 14 and four who are 13.

"All of these lads have been with us since they were five or six years old."

In the first semi-final, Hawarden Park took on a Pontarddulais team that contained a number of Welsh U15 internationals.

A brilliant fielding and bowling performance saw Pontarddulais restricted to 70 in their 20 overs.

There was a wicket apiece for Adam De Rycke, Fabio Franco, Evan Shaw, Luke Tyndall and Tom Wilson, with no bowler conceding more than 17 runs.

Hawarden Park reached their target for the loss of four wickets with some five overs to spare.

That means Park's final opponents were Swansea, who defeated Cardiff in their last-four clash.

Batting first, Hawarden Park set an imposing 133 for six from their time at the crease.

Openers Romano Franco (40) and Cameron Moon (27) were the main scorers.

Swansea were bowled out for 88 in reply.

Oliver Tyndall took three for nine, with Evan Shaw (2-13) and Luke Tyndall (2-20) also in fine form.

"It was fantastic," added Wilkinson.

"It was a brilliant day.

"We went there sort of proud of the fact we were representing North East Wales.

"We thought, if nothing else, it would be a day out.

"But to demolish the teams the way that we did, it's not been done for a long, long time by a North East Wales team."

Ten of the 15-player squad have all experienced senior cricket with Hawarden Park.

Wilkinson added: "Ian Martin has been the driving force behind all of the junior cricket."

As well as U15s, Hawarden Park also have teams at U13s, U11s and U9s, with stars and dynamos sides, in addition to a colts team.

Hawarden Park will now represent Wales in the ECB U15s T20 Cup.

This Sunday sees Hawarden Park at home to a team from Herefordshire, with the match starting at 1pm.
