PHIL PARKINSON is set to complete his first new signing of the summer "before the weekend" while the Wrexham manager hopes another transfer target will agree to make the switch to The Racecourse.

Parkinson is planning for the club's 15th season in non-league and already has a strong squad at his disposal but wants to bring in fresh faces with the Reds aiming to launch another promotion challenge in 2022-23.

Wrexham have been linked with Crawley Town centre-back Jordan Tunnicliffe who announced earlier this week that he will leave the League Two outfit when his contract expires today.

With Parkinson expecting to add to the squad, he has also been in talks with other targets and hopes for a decision regarding one player by the weekend.

"We are set to announce our first signing before the weekend and we are waiting on a decision from another player, who we have had talks with, by the weekend," said Parkinson.

"We have got an offer on the table for a player under contract at another club.

"There are several other situations ongoing which we are working towards."

Wrexham took the National League title race down to the wire last season before finishing runners-up to Stockport County but the promotion bid ended following a play-off semi-final defeat to Grimsby Town.

Parkinson insists wholesale changes aren't needed to his squad and is focussed on making quality additions to improve the Reds.

"As I have said before, there has been a major overhaul in previous summers but we are not in that situation this summer," added Parkinson.

"There probably won't be as much transfer activity as there has been in the past.

"The key for us is to get the injured players back fit to have a good pre-season, and to add in the areas we feel will improve us and that is what we are looking to do.

"I think everybody knows the squad is a long, long way ahead of where it was this time last year.

"We are working together to bring the right players and characters in to add to what we have got.

"I feel we are in a decent place but we are not resting on our laurels and thinking 'we are there'. We are not.

"We let players go and we need to replace those players, and we are endeavouring to do that. Bit by bit we will get there."
