WREXHAM missed out on automatic promotion but the brilliant support at Victoria Road made it an "honour" and privilege" for Phil Parkinson to manage the club.

Nearly 1,500 fans saw Wrexham lose 3-0 against Dagenham and Redbridge on the final day of the season and finish runners-up to Stockport County who clinched the National League title after beating Halifax Town 2-0.

Wrexham needed a win and hope that Stockport lost to secure the crown but an early Hatters goal left the Reds deflated, and Parkinson saw his side concede three second half goals.

Despite things not going their way on the pitch - Wrexham have a home play-off semi-final to look forward to against either Grimsby or Notts County after Sunday's FA Trophy final against Bromley at Wembley - Reds supporters were in good voice all afternoon.

Fans continued to cheer and applaud the players following the final whistle and Parkinson praised them for their tremendous backing all season.

"I think the supporters, what I found all season home and away, is they understand what they are seeing on the pitch," said Parkinson.

"Getting beat to Dover, they understood we had a chance to get back in; 1-0 up against Southend, a bit of fatigue, they lifted the team.

"On Sunday, they knew that Stockport were winning and they knew the lads looked as though the stuffing had been knocked out of them a little bit.

"You don't want that to happen but in a way it is understandable.

"The fans understood that and gave the lads amazing support, as they have done all season, and it is a great privilege to be the manager on the touchline in front of those supporters.

"It is a great honour to be on the touchline with support like that.

"The fans were outstanding for us but they have been all season."

Parkinson hopes to finish the season on a high as Wrexham aim to lift the Trophy and win promotion via the play-offs.

"We want to produce for them now in these next hopefully three games - we can't take anything for granted," added the Reds boss.

"We have got to where we are together, it has been a really good journey to this point but hopefully it is going to have a really good ending to the story.

"We have got a great opportunity now to finish this season in style."
