PHIL PARKINSON didn't want his side's high standards to drop in the final scheduled home league game of the campaign and the Reds' boss was delighted to sign off in style.

Wrexham, beaten only lost once at The Racecourse all season when Yeovil won 2-0 in November, needed to beat Stockport County in Sunday's top of the table clash to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

The Reds responded by securing a 3-0 victory in front of more than 10,100 fans and take over as leaders on goal difference from the Hatters who do have a game in hand.

The race for the title will go down to the wire - Wrexham travel to play-off hopefuls Dagneham for their final match on Sunday - and Parkinson was pleased to pick-up three points for the Reds' supporters.

"The supporters were fantastic, they have been all season," said Parkinson.

"I am just pleased that in the last scheduled home league game of the season that we finished in style because that is really important, we have maintained really high standards here.

"The atmosphere has been great since day one, the Notts County game, and that has continued all the way through.

"I think every supporter who was in the ground today will have really enjoyed seeing their team play."

Parkinson was pleased with the way his side responded to a slow start.

Ollie Palmer broke the deadlock in the 34th minute and he made it 3-0 early in the second half after top scorer Paul Mullin bagged his 30th goal of the season.

"I thought we took 10-15 minutes to settle," said Parkinson. "They probably started the better team.

"But what I was pleased with was the game management was good after that.

"There are always periods in a game when you are not quite at your best but you have got to work out a way to come through it, and we did that.

"The lads resolved it themselves and we reset as a team; we came through that little period unscathed and after that we grew into the game, and it was a well deserved victory."

Parkinson hailed his deadly strike duo as Wrexham registered another home win against Stockport having beaten their rivals 2-0 in last month's FA Trophy semi-final.

"I thought they were immense," said Parkinson.

"We felt we could give their back-three problems, we did when we played them in the FA Trophy.

"We nearly scored before we did in that game and we went through those clips with the lads on Saturday, the areas we felt we could give them problems.

"Paul's goal kind of typified that, the ball slipped down the side from Jordan Davies, a great pass, and an outstanding finish from Mulls."

It was a team effort by Wrexham and Parkinson was pleased to keep a clean sheet.

"Stockport have got good players," said Parkinson.

"Every team up there has got good players but we stood strong.

"Christian Dibble was excellent, nice and calm, and he has continued his form well."
