PAUL MULLIN will gladly forgo a first Wrexham hat-trick if he has promotion to celebrate at the end of the season.

The Reds' leading scorer, brought in from Cambridge United last summer following a prolific 2020-21 campaign in League Two, bagged a brace in Tuesday's 6-1 win at lowly Weymouth to take his tally to 28 goals.

With 24 of those goals coming in the National League, Mullin is now joint top scorer in the division alongside Chesterfield frontman Kabongo Tshimanga who is currently out injured.

Having scored six doubles for Wrexham, Mullin is still waiting to register a first treble for the club and he was taken off in the closing minutes at The Bob Lucas Stadium but he prefers to look at the bigger picture.

"I was disappointed to come off, I felt like there was another goal for me," said Mullin, who will aim to add to his tally when Wrexham continue the title challenge at home to Southend United tomorrow.

"But fair play to the gaffer, he realises there are a lot of games.

"I don't mind, it is just in the moment and half frustration but it is fine with me.

"I would love to score a hat-trick but if we lost the game, I would rather not.

"It if comes it comes, if it doesn't then it doesn't matter to me."

Mullin is now on target to pass the 30-goal mark for the second successive season but he would happily sacrifice that achievement if second placed Wrexham, four points behind leaders Stockport County with four games to go, realised their promotion dream.

"Obviously I want to score as many as I can and that will mean getting to 30," said Mullin.

"But I want to get promoted and I don't care if I don't get score another goal - I would swap all of them to get promoted.

"It is not about me, it is about the team and hopefully we can win on Saturday and if Stockport slip-up, even better."
