PHIL PARKINSON insists Wrexham will be fully focused on picking up victory against Southend United at The Racecourse and not get sidetracked by the potential rewards.

The second placed Reds beat Weymouth 6-1 on Tuesday to close the gap on leaders Stockport County to four points in the race for the National League title.

Another win against Southend will leave Wrexham one point behind the Hatters who face Boreham Wood in the tea-time but Parkinson insists the Reds must firstly take care of their own busness.

"We have got to make that drive us on but we have got to make sure that it doesn't make us kind of force the issue to win the game," said Parkinson.

"We know how we have got to go about our business and we know that target is there on Saturday, and we have got to aim to get it.

"We have got to come out of the traps really quickly, get The Racecourse bouncing and the fans will be ready to cheer the lads onto victory.

"It is important we come flying into the game and we can't wait for it."

Wrexham saw Stockport lose 2-1 at Yeovil on Saturday but then suffered defeat by the same score at Woking in the tea-time game.

Parkinson knew his side couldn't afford another slip-up against lowly Weymouth and the Reds are now guaranteed a play-off spot.

"We want more than that but there are things which are out of our control," added Parkinson.

"We let Stockport off the hook on Saturday, we couldn't let that happen again at Weymouth.

"If they do it, well done to them; if they slip up, we have got to be ready and waiting, and I firmly believe we will be."

Parkinson was dealt a blow as centre-back Aaron Hayden limped off with a hamstring injury late in the first half against Weymouth and could be a doubt.
