WREXHAM'S level of support never ceases to amaze Paul Mullin who wants to thank every one of the near 300-fans who attended Tuesday's 6-1 win at far-flung Weymouth.

Phil Parkinson's side made the 500-mile round trip to The Bob Lucas Stadium on the back of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Woking which put a dent in the Reds' National League title hopes.

The midweek victory against the Terras enabled second placed Wrexham to close the gap on leaders Stockport County to four points and top-scorer Mullin applauded supporters for making the long journey, despite the game being streamed live, and continuing to back the Reds' in the promotion challenge on the back of disappointment at the weekend.

"It is incredible," said Mullin.

"The support the club has had this year has been unbelievable.

"To see fans travel all this way down here on a Tuesday night after getting beat on Saturday - one thing for sure is I wouldn't be going! - but they have come and stuck behind us.

"They have done it all year and to the people who have come, I can only thank them.

"I went to try and thank every one of them at the end because I appreciate them coming.

"That's the way we are as a group, we really appreciate the support because we know how much it can lift us."

Wrexham are back at The Racecourse for Saturday's clash against Southend United with another huge crowd expected.

Playing in front of bumper crowds at home is not lost on Mullin, whose brace in the win at Weymouth took his tally for the season to 28 goals in all competitions.

"The home games, they have been unbelievable as well," added Mullin.

"The support has been fantastic all year and we just want to try and reward them."

Wrexham made a slow start against Weymouth who took a 20th minute lead, and it remained 1-0 at the break.

But the Reds produced a stunning second half performance, with Jordan Davies and Mullin both grabbing doubles to go with singles from James Jones and Ollie Palmer.

Mullin admits the first half wasn't good enough but the striker was pleased with final outcome in the push for promotion, condemning Weymouth to relegation.

"The gaffer was spot on at half-time with his instructions to us," said Mullin.

"He told us what to do and we went and carried it out.

"We came out 6-1 winners in the end, it looks flattering and the first half it wasn't nowhere near a 6-1 game!

"But we won and that is all that matters.

"Once we got that first goal it was only going to go one way from there.

"We know if we make chances we will score goals; Saturday we didn't make any chances and we didn't score goals, that's how it works.

"At Weymouth we created a few and managed to tuck them away."
