WREXHAM get another chance to make up ground on title rivals Stockport County and Luke Young doesn't want another wasted opportunity.

The Reds went into Saturday's game at Woking knowing that the leaders had suffered a 2-1 defeat against Yeovil but Phil Parkinson's side failed to capitalise as they lost by the same scoreline despite leading 1-0 at half-time.

Still second in the National League, Wrexham remain seven points behind the Hatters and both teams have five games remaining.

The automatic promotion challenge continues against lowly Weymouth at The Bob Lucas Stadium tonight and with Stockport not in action, Young is eager to take advantage.

"We have got to take the rough with the smooth," said Young.

"Our unbeaten run has unfortunately come to an end at the wrong time because the leaders have slipped up - it was an opportunity for us to grab.

"We did that for 45 minutes but when you come away with nothing, it is difficult.

"We have got another game on Tuesday, we have got to dust ourselves down and it is a chance to close the gap once again because they don't play.

"We have got to go to Weymouth with the mentality that we are going to get the three points."

Young insists knowing that Stockport had lost didn't make a difference as Wrexham went down at Woking in the tea-time kick-off.

An own goal just before the break had Parkinson's men in front but Woking scored twice in the second half to clinch victory and end the Reds' 15-game unbeaten run.

"There's no getting away from what went on earlier," said Young.

"It didn't make a difference what Stockport did, we knew we had to win the game regardless of what happened to have a chance of catching them at the top of the table.

"Unfortunately we came up short knowing they came up short as well.

"The first half wasn't pretty, it was tough against the wind but we held our own and ground it out, and got a scrappy goal for 1-0.

"We can't shy away from the fact we have gone 1-0 up going into the break; when you come away with nothing it is hard to take, especially when we are fighting at the top end of the table."

Young knows it could have been a different story if Wrexham scored a second goal and built on their lead.

"We knew there would be a reaction second half and we had to come out the other side of that," added Young.

"We had a few half chances and if they go in, it becomes a more comfortable afternoon and maybe knocks the stuffing out of them a little bit more.

"The longer it is 1-0 they will feel they have got a chance.

"We knew it wasn't going to be easy and we had to stand up to what they threw at us, but play our game and do what we know we are good at.

"We didn't do that to the best of our ability but you have got to give Woking full credit for coming out and having a go at us."
