STOCKPORT might be in pole position in the race for automatic promotion from the National League but Jordan Davies insists Wrexham will be ready to take advantage of any slip-up.

Saturday’s epic 6-5 victory against Dover, where the Reds staged a fantastic comeback after trailing 5-2 in the 63rd minute, extended the unbeaten run to 10 games and leaves Phil Parkinson’s side second in the table.

Wrexham are 11 points behind Stockport, who are also in superb form having secured eight successive league wins, with a game in hand.

With 10 games to go, the Reds are playing catch-up but midfielder Davies, who took his tally for the season to 16 goals with a brace in the Dover success, is not giving up on the title.

“We have put ourselves in a position now where Stockport know we are chasing them,” said Davies.

“They know if they slip-up, we will be there.

“All we can do is keep winning our games and hopefully they slip-up along the way.”

The title rivals meet at The Racecourse in Saturday’s FA Trophy semi-final with the winners advancing to a place in the Wembley showpiece against either Bromley or York City.

“It is a great reward at the end of the game on Saturday,” said Davies, who will be hoping to overcome a calf problem and play in the last four encounter.

“Either to be at Wembley or we are out.”

The teams also meet at The Racecourse in the league on May 7 in what could be a crucial clash in the battle for top spot.

Davies hopes victory in the Trophy will give Wrexham a psychological boost.

“If Stockport play their full-strength side and we beat them, I think it is a one-up from our point of view,” added Davies.

“If they beat us then it doesn’t matter because it is not in the league so it can work both ways.

“We are looking forward to it, getting out there and proving a point.”
