PHIL PARKINSON is pleased Wrexham don’t have a midweek fixture before attempting to secure their place at a Wembley cup final.

The Reds came through a run of three games in eight days with seven points to keep their National League title hopes alive.

After a goalless draw at Bromley, Wrexham produced a brilliant performance to beat promotion rivals Halifax Town 3-1 last Tuesday before beating Dover Athletic 6-5 in an epic contest at The Racecourse on Saturday.

Wrexham led 2-0 but then trailed 5-2 after 63 minutes before completing an amazing comeback, with victory taking the Reds up to second in the National League, 11 points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.

The Hatters are in town for Saturday’s FA Trophy semi-final showdown and Parkinson is glad of a breather before the eagerly awaited showdown where the winners will head to Wembley for the showpiece.

“It is a good week for us,” said Parkinson. “We have had three games in seven days, a difficult week.

“The Halifax game was a full-on game and it looked like it took a bit out of us.

“We need to decide on the schedule for this week and make sure that in front of another terrific crowd and atmosphere - Stockport will bring a lot of fans - we are ready to get ourselves to Wembley.”

Wrexham remain in title contention after extending the unbeaten run to 10 games but Stockport triumphed 2-0 at Eastleigh to continue their winning run.

Parkinson feels both teams will have tough games to come in the run-in but says the performance against Halifax showed just what the Reds are capable of.

“I expected Stockport to win at Eastleigh,” added Parkinson.

“There are tougher challenges ahead for them and probably for us but all we can do is concentrate on ourselves on a game-to-game basis.

“We have got good players, we have got a good team and the squad is good.

“I think we are in a decent place and the run is good.

“There are some decent teams in and around us but as we showed against Halifax, when we are at our best we are a good side.”
