ROB LAINTON is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected broken wrist during Saturday's goalless draw against Bromley.

Wrexham's first choice goalkeeper was carried off in the second half at Hayes Lane after making a brave follow-up save to thwart Ali Al-Hamadi having already kept out Luke Coulson's effort.

Stretchered off in the corresponding fixture last season after he was knocked unconscious, Lainton is now facing a spell out of action which is blow to the Reds' promotion challenge.

"I think Rob has broken his wrist so that is a real blow for him and for us," said manager Phil Parkinson.

"Rob is a very brave goalkeeper and you need that from your goalkeeper; he has had a couple of instances this year where he has come out and been concussed.

"It was another moment where he has come out really bravely and unfortunately he has picked up what looks like a serious injury.

"Dibbs (Christian Dibble) came on and did terrifically well for us but it's a real blow."

Centre-back Aaron Hayden was also forced at half-time due to illness and replaced by Tyler French.

"Aaron was ill before the game," said Parkinson.

"He said he felt better in the warm-up but at half-time felt he couldn't carry on.

"There is no need to risk Aaron when we have got a very good player like Tyler to come off the bench."

With Lainton and Hayden having to go off, and Jordan Davies making his comeback from a calf injury as a second half replacement for Liam McAlinden, Parkinson used all his substitutes by the 62nd minute.

Wrexham finished the game with 11 men but the draw, which ended a run of seven successive wins in all competitions, meant the fourth placed Reds lost ground on National League leaders Stockport County in the race for the title.

"We couldn't freshen it up towards the end of the game but that's the way it goes and we will take the point," added Parkinson.
