PHIL PARKINSON doesn’t want the FA Trophy run to end and will “think long and hard” about his starting XI for tonight’s clash against Notts County.

Promotion is the priority and Tuesday’s 4-2 win against Boreham Wood leaves third placed Wrexham six points behind National League leaders Stockport County.

The focus turns to non-league’s premier cup competition and the quarter-final tie with the Magpies at Meadow Lane.

Parkinson has named a strong side in the previous three rounds but hinted that some players could be rested.

However, Wrexham don’t have a midweek game following the Trophy tie and that could have a bearing on the Reds’ boss selection plans.

But whatever team he picks, the aim is to register a seventh victory in a row and reach the semi-finals.

“We will be ready to go again,” said Parkinson. “We will think long and hard about the selection.

“Reece Hall-Johnson has been carrying an Achilles’ problem and Paul Mullin’s calf is a bit tight so we will think long and hard.

“But we go there and want to keep the run going.

“We want to keep playing well; we are enjoying winning games of football and want to keep it going at Notts County.

“We have got a good squad and we will pick the team we feel is capable of getting through.

“We all know that the league is so important for us but, however, we haven’t got a midweek game after that.”

Jordan Davies, the Reds’ second top scorer, and fellow midfielder Tom O’Connor missed Tuesday’s win through injury and continue to be monitored.

James Jones retained his place and capped another impressive display with the third goal in the win, earning praise from his manager for the way he has performed since being recalled.

“We have got competition in the squad and JJ has really upped his game in the last three or four games,” added Parkinson.

“I am so pleased for him because he is a great professional.”
