OLLIE PALMER had no qualms about dropping two divisions to sign for Wrexham because the striker does not intend to spend too long in the National League with his new club.

The Reds have broken their transfer record to sign Palmer from AFC Wimbledon, with the League One club confirming they accepted an offer of £300,000 for the 30-year-old.

Palmer has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at The Racecourse until June 2025, and the frontman wants to spent the majority of that time back in the Football League with Wrexham.

"Sometimes you take one step backwards and take two steps forward," said Palmer.

"It would be great to be part of a promotion winning team and the main reason I have come here is to get something like that on my CV.

"I don't want to be in the Conference longer than four months! Hopefully we get promotion this summer, that is the plan."

Palmer, who is 6ft 5in tall, was Wimbledon's leading scorer with eight goals.

When asked whether there was added pressure on him coming from a team in League One and Wrexham paying a large fee for his services, Palmer said: "Wherever you come from, you want to do well and you want to help the team achieve things.

"We want to achieve promotion and I probably put more pressure on myself than anyone to make sure that happens.

"As long as I am doing everything that I can, and I am totally honest about what I am doing day in, day out to achieve that then that is the main thing."

Palmer, who has a decent strike rate in his career, is aiming to contribute with more goals and assists in Wrexham's quest for promotion.

"I had a really good goal return at Wimbledon," said Palmer.

"My contribution with assists was good, I scored eight goals this season and I was enjoying it there.

"But the main thing now is getting goals for Wrexham and contributing to the team every way I can."
