WREXHAM are within touching distance of top spot in the National League but centre-back Aaron Hayden knows there can be no let-up from the Reds.

Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Altrincham saw Phil Parkinson’s side move up to third place, just one point behind co-leaders Chesterfield and Halifax.

Just one defeat in 10 outings has enabled Wrexham to climb from mid-table and become promotion challengers, and there is another big test for the Reds at Notts County on Sunday.

But Hayden is just looking to continue the excellent run of form and keep giving supporters something to cheer about.

“Every game is a big game, every game has equal weight. You get three points for every game you win so every game is important,” said Hayden.

“We will attack Sunday the same we have attacked every game which is wanting to play football and wanting to win.

“It is about getting the fans excited, making them get behind us and three points does that

“First part of the season they would have been a bit disappointed seeing us in mid-table but we always knew what we were capable of.

“The fans want to see the team top of the table, they want to see us climb up and we are beginning to do that now.

“It is only a start, we haven’t done anything yet. There is still a mountain to climb and we have got to stay consistent, you can’t ease up.”

Parkinson is looking to start 2022 with a positive result against Notts County.

“We are looking forward to it,” said Parkinson.

“We have just got to make sure that we get everybody ready and we have got plenty of players to pick from, and we pick the right team to go and give a good account of ourselves at Meadow Lane.”
