PHIL PARKINSON felt his side should have put Weymouth to the sword after dominating the whole match but the Wrexham boss was just pleased to pick up another win ahead of a fortnight break from National League action.

The Reds controlled Saturday's clash with the lowly Terras from start to finish and took the lead following Jordan Davies' brilliant 25-yard free-kick in the 29th minute.

Needing a second goal to make the game safe, Wrexham lacked a cutting edge in the final third and failed to take the chances that did come their way but Davies' seventh goal of the season proved to be enough.

Wrexham, who host Gloucester City in Saturday's FA Trophy third round tie, are fourth in the National League going into the busy festive period which kicks off with the Boxing Day clash with Solihull Moors at The Racecourse, and three points was all that mattered to Parkinson.

"I thought first half we were good and we controlled the game," said Parkinson. "Some of the football we played was excellent and got the goal.

"Second half we played well in patches but we were a bit wasteful in the final third, and we really should have killed the game off.

"At 1-0 as everybody knows, you are always a set-play or a moment away from costing yourself two points.

"We controlled the game for practically the whole game but I just felt in that final third we were a little bit slack and we could have produced more but it is another good three points for us and it keeps the run going.

"Like I said before the game, I felt this was so important because you go next week without a league game going into the Christmas period and the three points was crucial.

"We are on a good run and I am pleased with the lads."

Wrexham were on top throughout with the lowly Terras posing little attacking threat.

Although the Reds were unable to build on Davies giving them a deserved lead at the break, it was a job well done as far as Parkinson was concerned as his side remained three points behind leaders Chesterfield.

"We have controlled the game," added Parkinson. "I can't remember a game where we have dominated for practically the whole 90 minutes, they have hardly had a shot on our goal or a corner.

"It is just getting that second goal which we haven't done as well at home.

"Football is about finding a way to win and that is absolutely crucial for us.

"Look at Manchester City at home to Wolves who were down to 10 men; all the stars they had on the pitch and they struggled to a 1-0 win like us.

"It is just making sure that if you don't get the second, you don't concede and you come away with three points.

"It is another clean sheet for us and I am pleased with the way the lads have gone about their business.

"The only criticism was that final pass of quality, the selection wasn't quite there but it is a great three points for us."
