WREXHAM AC racers achieved three podium positions in the North Wales 5k road championships in Abergele.

Mike Robbins (20.07) was 27th overall and the second M55, with Deb Pugh (47th in 22.44) the third W55.

Finishing as the third M80 was Peter Norman (32.55), while Richard Westwood crossed the line 31st in 20.50.

The Wrexham men shone at the Border Road Race League event at Capenhurst, with six of them in the top-20.

Their push was spearheaded by Ryan Davis, eighth overall in 25.39, helping the men to finish third in Division One.

Also in the top-20 were Daniel Weston (12th in 26.05), Ben Goodfellow (13th, 26.12), Luke Northall (14th, 26.20), Joel Gomes (19th, 26.36) and Peter Butler-Jones (20th, 26.38).

There was a record turnout of 31 from the fast-growing Deestriders RC, with many debutants and personal bests.

Among the men, Steven Hayes was the first V45 in 26.22, while there were personal bests from Drew Gray (29.59), Craig Davies (32.48), Max Dowell (32.56), Paul Lewtey (34.33) and Mike Salusbury (39.43).

Other Deestriders were Steve Thomas (32.12), Terry Jones (35.09), Neil Edwards (36.18), Paul Aird (37.21), Martin Witty (38.06), Pat Gawley (38.51), Shaun Terry (39.50), Scott Jones (39.53), John Owen (41.19), Dafydd Morris (42.05), Michael Norris (45.16) and Kevin Burns (46.43).

Among the female ranks, Angela Deeley was the first V50 in a personal best of 33.31.
