HARRY LENNON admits Wrexham will leave themselves with too much ground to make up if they don’t stop dropping points from winning positions.

Summer signing Lennon gave the Reds the perfect start as the centre-back scored his first goal for the club after just four minutes in Saturday’s home clash with Torquay United, with Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds attending a game at The Racecourse for the first time since completing their high profile takeover in February.

But Phil Parkinson’s side failed to build on the quickfire start and the Gulls equalised with six minutes remaining.

The stalemate leaves Wrexham 13th in the National League, 13 points behind leaders Boreham Wood.

Parkinson’s men are seven points away from the play-offs and Lennon stressed the importance of ensuring there is not a big gap between the Reds and the leading pack so they don’t give themselves too much to do.

“It is a point but it has happened too many times already this season, dropping silly points in games we should be winning,” said Lennon.

“We should have picked up more points but we can’t keep going on like that, otherwise the season is just going to go and we are going to be too far off the play-offs and leave ourselves with too much to do.

“We need to get that right but there are plenty more games to play.”

Despite Lennon’s early strike in front of more than 9,800 supporters, Wrexham created few chances during the contest and didn’t look like extending their lead.

Torquay hadn’t threatened a goal until the late leveller and Lennon says it was frustrating not to secure three points after taking the lead.

“They didn’t really have many chances but nor did we,” said Lennon.

“It was a game of few chances; they didn’t really look like scoring, we did on a couple of set-pieces and throw-ins but other than that we did not create enough.

“There wasn’t much football played at all and the game was all about second balls. We did that well in the first half but I don’t think we did in the second half.

“But I felt like we should have won the game and it was disappointing.”

Wrexham had a penalty shout turned down when Bryce Hosannah appeared to have been brought down in the area.

Apart from that incident, Wrexham lacked a cutting edge in the second half and Lennon admits below par performances after the interval is something that needs addressing.

“We have had a bit of a bad habit with the home games,” said Lennon.

“We have had a couple of good wins against Woking and Dagenham but I don’t think we have been good enough in the second half of games at home.

“That is something that we have got to nail down and take a look at why that is happening.”
