CHRISTIAN DIBBLE will always be ready to answer the call but the goalkeeper won’t ever be content warming the substitutes bench.

The 27-year-old is expected to keep his place in the side when Wrexham return to National League action following a near-three week break against Barnet at The Hive tomorrow.

Rob Lainton was knocked unconscious and broke his nose in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Marine, with Dibble coming on as substitute and producing a string of fine saves to keep below par Wrexham in the game.

A stoppage time equaliser earned a replay which Wrexham won 2-0 in midweek thanks to Paul Mullin’s brace, with Dibble keeping his place as Lainton follows return to play protocols.

“It was exactly the same as Bromley away last season,” said Dibble, when Lainton suffered a previous head injury.

“It is never nice to see your team-mate, and your mate as well, lying there unconscious but I had to come on and try and do a good job for the team.

“We managed to scrape an equaliser and we came out of the traps and did well in the replay, and we are in the next round.”

Dibble, whose only other appearance this season was when he started the opening day draw with Solihull Moors, is back-up to Lainton but it won’t stop him pushing the Reds’ number one - even when he is fully fit - in pursuit of more starts.

“I am ready when called upon,” said Dibble.

“I would like to think I am a good pro, I don’t go complaining, I keep my head down and train well and if I am called upon, I am ready to play and do my best.

“You are always going to make mistakes as a goalkeeper, you are going to get stick, but I am always ready to come in and help the team.

“Hopefully I have done that the last two games.”

Dibble added: “I have always said that it is a battle between me and Rob on the pitch and the training pitch.

“I would like to think I would be in the gaffer’s mind every game, there’s no point in playing football if you don’t feel like that.

“I don’t want to think I am just going to be sat on the bench when Rob is available.

“I want to keep pushing to play like anyone does in football.”

Dibble hopes Wrexham, mid-table following an indifferent start to a 14th season in non-league, can build-on their cup win and get more points on the board.

After heading to Barnet, the Reds are also away at Maidenhead on Tuesday.

“We have got a lot of new players and we are still gelling as a team,” added Dibble.

“It is not going to happen overnight when you change the team but we have got a great group of lads in there.

“We won on Tuesday, hopefully we can pick up three points at Barnet and go to Maidenhead and do the same.

“It is always good to go into the next game with a win so we look forward to Saturday now and go again."
