THE wet weather denied Wrexham victory against Aldershot Town on Saturday so Phil Parkinson’s side will aim to pick up where they left off at home to high-flying Chesterfield this evening.

Returning striker Jake Hyde and Paul Mullin from the penalty spot gave the Reds a deserved 2-0 lead at the break.

But heavy rain before and during the National League fixture took its toll on the Recreation Ground pitch and the match was abandoned early in the second half.

It was arguably Wrexham’s best performance of the season and another bumper Racecourse crowd will be hoping for more of the same against the Spireites.

Supporters were asked how they think the Reds will get on against Chesterfield and whether it was the right decision to abandon Saturday’s game at Aldershot, and here are the replies.

PETE JONES: “I guess it was right, but not seeing the ground staff even attempt to clear the water stinks a bit - what happened to fair play. Anyway that’s gone now and looking forward to a 2-0 win tomorrow, up the town.”

HUGO MATTHEWS: “Great decision Saturday, unfortunate really how he had to start the second half and then make the decision but fair play to all the players who tried to clear the rain. Unlucky not too take the three pts home but always next time. Gotta be a comfortable win, I’m saying 3-0 town.”

SEANY PRINCE: “Definitely the right decision to end the game! I know we were 2-0 up but it’s a long season and need to keep players safe. 3-0 under the lights.”

RYAN PETERS: “Full house, under the lights, honks of a 1-0 defeat.”

WARREN BARTON: “2-1 to the town, Mullin and Hyde again.”

JEFF LAING: “The decision to abandon was the correct one but it should have been done at half time as it was obvious that Aldershot staff had no interest in doing anything to deal with the situation. Obviously Wrexham will hammer Chesterfield.”

SUPERSUB: “Would love to finally send a message out and start beating the fancied clubs. Tomorrow would be as good a time as any.”

CRAIG JONES: “This will be a very tough test against one of the best sides in the division and a striker banging them in for fun. They have conceded quite a few lately though, and we have to go into the game with positivity for the whole 90 minutes and use our home advantage to the max!”

BEN: “It was definitely the right decision to call the game off as if there was anymore rain someone could have been at serious risk of drowning. Well done referee, safety must come first.”

ROB JONES: “It was right. 10 mins in the ball wasn’t moving in patches. I said to my lads I’d be amazed if the game finished. Heaviest rain at a game I’ve been to following Wrexham.”

EDDIE: "Wrexham win 1-0 with Hyde getting the goal."
