THIS week saw the 87th anniversary of the Gresford Colliery disaster, an event that is inextricably interwoven into the fabric of the football club.

As a new arrival to Wrexham, it doesn’t take long to get a sense of how much the tragedy has shaped the community and the club and the weight of the responsibility to ensure that the occasion is marked in the right way.

The minute’s silence before the Dagenham and Redbridge game was marked impeccably by what was a large and boisterous crowd and there is something incredibly powerful and moving about 8,000 people united in an act of remembrance.

It was great to get back to winning ways against Dagenham after the disappointment of Grimsby away.

Phil Parkinson, the team and the fans in the ground dug deep to pull out a big win against a team that was carrying an electric run of form over from the end of last season.

Phil was at pains to mention the supporters in his post-match interview and I think that Saturday was the perfect example of the power of fans to give the players that extra lift, that extra drive to push themselves to the very limit.

As is so very often the case with 1-0 leads, our goal came under a bit of a bombardment for the last 15 minutes and the positivity and encouragement of the crowd was central to preserving that lead.

The communication between crowd and players is always such a powerful tool and our huge crowds can, and have been so far, be such a vital asset to the club.

I think Dagenham looked a little shell-shocked in the first half and that that was down to to the sheer volume of our support - and a very good performance from our boys.

Let’s make The Racecourse into what Bill Shankly called a “Bastion of Invincibility”.

Chesterfield are up there next on Tuesday October 5 and I am confident nobody will need too much encouragement to be noisy when they come to town.

Away from the pitch, the club is now advertising a number of roles to help the club expand its operations and increase efficiency.

There remain many roles on a match day, from stewarding to bar staff as well as a more involved positions such as Head of Ticketing and Accounts Assistant.

All the details required to apply for these roles can be found at https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/vacancies.

Come and join us on what promises to be a great journey.
