DAVID JONES admitted that the Wrexham players are "amazed" at the level of support at their games this season - both home and away.

More than 8,000 fans have attended the last two home games at The Racecourse while Phil Parkinson's side have had healthy away followings at all their fixtures on the road, including the length trip to Southend and a Tuesday night encounter at Grimsby.

Jones, brought up in the Wrexham area, is no stranger to playing in front of big crowds after playing for the likes of Manchester United, Derby County, Wolves and Burnley after starting out in the Reds' Centre of Excellence as a nine-year-old.

The 36-year-old says the brilliant backing has galvanised the players and with 1,700 supporters ready to roar Wrexham on in Saturday's eagerly awaited showdown with Stockport County at Edgeley Park, Jones can't wait.

"I am really looking forward to it," said Jones.

"We have had big crowds at The Racecourse, great followings at away games and I am sure this will be another great atmosphere.

"I think the players have responded to having the great support we have had at Wrexham this season so it will give the team another big boost that you need for away games.

"We definitely recognise that as players. We talk about how good it has been to have all that support.

"It really does help the players on the pitch. There's a lot of new players at the club and everybody has been not surprised but amazed at the level of the support and how good the fans are.

"It makes such a difference to have such a positive vibe around and I am sure that will continue throughout the season.

"The lads are really thriving from it."
