TYLER FRENCH has enjoyed an excellent start to the season but he still classes centre-back as his best position.

Wrexham face Stockport County in tomorrow’s eagerly awaited showdown at Edgeley Park with French expected to continue deputising for Reece Hall-Johnson in the right wing-back role.

Hall-Johnson picked up an injury in the opening day draw at Solihull where French lined up in the back three before switching to the flank for the last six matches.

French has been an attacking threat down the right, setting up both goals in the 2-2 draw at Southend, and the 22-year-old feels he had made the most of his run in the side.

“It’s definitely been a good start to the season for me,” said French.

“I think it is an opportunity I have taken with two hands.

“I am just looking to keep myself in the team and keep playing well.

“They are big shoes to fill because everyone knows how good Reece is.

“I can only do the best of my ability to try and make up for Reece not being there.

“I still see my position as a centre-back. I think that is my best position but it is nice that I can play different positions to help the team out.

“All I can do is just keep doing what I am asked to do, take on the gaffer’s instructions and what he wants from me, and help the team as much as I can.”

Wrexham bounced back from a first defeat of the season at Grimsby by winning 1-0 at home to Dagenham who started Saturday’s clash sitting top of the National League.

Phil Parkinson’s side have taken 12 points from a possible 21 to sit seventh in the table and French is satisfied with the haul given the Reds’ difficult start to the campaign.

“We have had one of the harder starts to the season so I don’t think we can be disappointed,” said French.

“With everyone’s high standards, we would like to have started a little bit better but when you look back at the games we have done pretty well.”

Stockport, title favourites along with Wrexham going into the season, are four points worse off in 11th spot but French knows Simon Rusk’s men will be eager to put things right.

“Stockport have got a lot of good players and big things are expected from them,” said French.

“They will be looking to rectify their start by beating us and shutting us up.

“But we are obviously going there for all three points so we will not make it easy for them at all.”

Wrexham, who have had more than 8,000 supporters at the last two home games, will be backed by a large following in a bumper crowd at Edgeley Park.

“We all know how big a game it is and I am relishing playing in front of such big crowds at this level," said French.

“It is brilliant and we are going to need all the fans at Stockport."
