PHIL PARKINSON wants more of a cutting edge from Wrexham against leaders Dagenham and Redbridge tomorrow.

The Reds will be looking to bounce back from a first defeat of the season after losing 3-1 at Grimsby on Tuesday.

Jake Hyde put Wrexham ahead but Grimsby took advantage of poor marking to turn things around and lead 2-1 at the break before scoring a late third goal.

Although they pushed for a second half equaliser, Parkinson admits the Reds need to improve in the final third and react better to balls that come into the opposition’s penalty area.

“We got in some good positions, the final ball probably wasn’t quite right and a lot of crosses were overhit,” said Parkinson.

“They are the moments we have produced so far this season; we have scored some quality goals but I feel we have also got to have the ability to score those scrappy goals as well.

“I am on about when the ball comes in the box, whether it is a long throw or a set-play, we have got to have a bit more desire to get on the end of things and react to the second phase situations.

“Some of the football at Grimsby was good but we have got to make sure we have got a real cutting edge when that ball goes in the box.”

Midfielder Jordan Davies, who scored the only goal in Saturday's victory over Woking, was absent at Blundell Park with a calf injury.

Parkinson hope Davies will be available next Saturday at Stockport County.

"Jordan has had a scan and he will miss the weekend," said Parkinson. "Hopefully he will fit for the following weekend."
