JAMES JONES had to think about dropping down two divisions but the midfielder couldn't say no to being part of the exciting journey at ambitious Wrexham.

The 25-year-old has joined Wrexham from Lincoln City for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal at The Racecourse.

A regular in League One for the Imps last season, Jones previously played at the same level as well as the division below for Crewe Alexandra from 2014-2020.

Jones will play in the National League for the first time in his career with Wrexham but he hopes it won't be long before he and the Reds are back in the Football League.

"It is something I had to think about," Jones said about signing for a non-league club.

"But the ambition of the club, hopefully we won't be here too much longer and to be part of that journey, and not just settling for getting into the Football League because the ambitions are much higher than that, will be something special.

"I know players that have played at this level before and I have spoken to them so I am under no illusion that it is going to be a competitive league and it is going to be a tough season.

"But everyone knows that Wrexham's ambition isn't to be in this league for very long so hopefully we can do that."

Wrexham has attracted worldwide attention since Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds completed their takeover at The Racecourse.

But it wasn't just the club being owned by two famous actors that appealed to Jones, a former Scotland Under 19 and 21 international.

"As soon as I heard about Wrexham interest, it was something that interested me," added Jones.

"And the more I looked into it, the more it appealed to me with everything going on at the club at the minute.

"The ambition of the club, the set-up, trying to do everything the right way, the gaffer, the owners, the fanbase, it is a big club and when the fans get behind the team which I am sure they will, the sky's the limit for Wrexham."
