RETURNING supporters saw Wrexham secure a 5-0 victory over Tamworth at The Lamb Ground.

It was the first time in nearly 17 months that Wrexham have played in front of their own fans and Phil Parkinson registered his first win as Reds' manager.

Wrexham, beaten 1-0 by Burnley U23s in their opening friendly, were too strong for their Southern League Premier Division Central hosts and could have won by a bigger margin following a one-sided contest.

Defender Max Cleworth, summer signing Liam McAlinden and fellow striker Jordan Ponticelli were named in the starting XI as the trio made their first pre-season outing.

Wrexham made the perfect start by taking the lead inside the opening 30 seconds as Paul Mullin crossed into the danger zone and Tyler French converted from close range.

The Reds continued to probe and Mullin wasn't far away with a curling effort.

But supporters didn't have long to wait for the second goal as Ponticelli headed home Mullin's cross after 15 minutes.

It was nearly 3-0 as soon as the game restarted with Mullin's shot crashing against the crossbar.

Wrexham were a constant threat and Mullin brought two comfortable saves out of Tamworth goalkeeper Jas Singh before Ryan Beswick failed to hit the target with a free-kick for Tamworth.

Singh pulled off a smart save to deny Ponticelli as normal service resumed and Wrexham could have been further ahead at the interval.

However, the third goal arrived three minutes into the second half.

Trialist B picked up the ball and his cross/shot was turned into the net by substitute Dior Angus.

Hungry for more goals, Angus saw a shot blocked by a defender and Ponticelli's follow-up was saved by Singh.

Parkinson began to make more changes and Singh made a simple save from Dan Jarvis, one of the replacements.

But Wrexham made it 4-0 in the 70th minute.

Angus fired against a bar and a trialist scored from close range.

There was another chance for Angus who was thwarted by Singh but the striker made no mistake nine minutes from time, scoring Wrexham's fifth goal following a superb run by Cleworth.
