THERE was thunder and lightning but no sparks flew upfront as Wrexham’s first pre-season run-out of the summer ended in a 1-0 defeat to Burnley under 23s.

Burnley striker Joe McGlynn grabbed the only goal of the game in the first few minutes as new Reds boss Phil Parkinson included five trialists in his side.

Parkinson’s first starting XI in charge saw Rob Lainton in goal with defenders Tyler French and Shaun Brisley joined by two trialits and left wing back Cameron Green.

Another trialist played in midfield alongside Jordan Davies and Dan Jarvis with Dior Angus and Jake Bickerstaff, who ended last season on loan at Caernarfon Town, up front.

At half-time, Christian Dibble replaced Lainton with new strikers Paul Mullin and Jake Hyde introduced just before the hour mark.

Wrexham’s best chance off the game fell to Mullin, who caused a stir when he penned a three-year deal at The Racecourse last Friday, curled his effort over the bar.

On the day fans were picking up the new-look away shirt in the club shop, Wrexham players donned the new strip in yesterday’s behind-closed doors game at Barnfield.
