PAUL MULLIN - one of the main men brought in to land Wrexham the National League title - is used to seeing silverware paraded around The Racecourse.

Before his pre-signing tour of the ground, Liverpool-fan Mullin’s only previous trip to Wrexham’s famous home ground was in 2005 when the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher showed off the Champions League trophy as Liverpool took on the Reds in a pre-season friendly.

“I must have been about 10 and I remember my dad saying he’d got tickets to go and watch Liverpool play at Wrexham,” said Mullin, who signed a three-year deal at Wrexham after firing 32 goals in Cambridge United’s League Two promotion campaign last season.

Wrexham fans will hope that in 10 months time, Mullin is taking a trophy to all corners of the ground as he tries to help fire his new club back into the Football League.

“I’ve never played at the ground before but once you see it, walk onto the pitch and imagine what it’s like with all the fans there, I can’t wait to get out there.”

Mullin, who was called by Reds co-owner Rob McElhenney in a bid to entice the 26-year-old to Wrexham, says he’s excited on all front about joining Wrexham.

“When I got onto the phone to him I wasn’t too sure about dropping down the levels to play for Wrexham,” said Mullin, who rejected a deal to remain at Cambridge as well as approaches by other clubs.

“But when I spoke to him he outlined the ambition for the club and where they want to be in three to four years and how well they want to do to get there and what he’s willing to do for success for the club.

“This year is just all going to be about promotion and trying to get us into the Football League.

“But the owner’s ambition, what he’s got planned for the club and the community - he wants to be remembered for the next 100 years

“I want to be a part of something exciting and Wrexham was that for me.

“I always knew Wrexham was a massive, massive club - they should be in the Football League and I want to help them achieve that.”
