THINGS are hotting up at Wrexham Football Club.

Who needs to jet off to Marbella, La Cala or the Algarve for pre-season, warm-weather training when it’s touching 30 degrees in the Costa del Colliers Park in Gresford?

Phil Parkinson, Steve Parkin and Owen Jackson - our Head of Physical Performance - have been putting the players through their paces to ensure they will be in tip-top condition for the start of the new season.

Every club wants their playing squad to be in peak condition so they can hit the ground running when the season gets underway next month.

And we’ll begin our pre-season friendlies this weekend in a behind-closed-doors clash at Sheffield Wednesday.

We’ve also lined up behind-closed-doors games at Burnley and Fleetwood but the one Wrexham fans will be interested in is the game at Tamworth on July 31.

Fans will be allowed into The Lamb Ground for that one and I know we’ll have lots of supporters heading to Staffordshire to watch that one.

It’s been a while since the club’s fans have had the chance to go to a game and Tamworth can expect a sell-out for the game, I’m sure.

All I would say to Wrexham supporters to make sure they follow all the safety guidelines and take any advice that’s comes their way on board.

We should have been in Philadelphia that weekend to play the Union - a game Rob McElhenney was going to attend - to watch his team live for the first time.

It was unfortunate we had to call that game off but we simply had to due to travel restrictions.

But there’s no reason why we can’t go back there and it’s something we will be hoping to do next year.

The big news coming out of the club this week is something you’ve all been waiting to hear about, which is when season tickets will go on sale.

Monday is the big day and it’s fair to say we are expecting fans to be clamouring for them.

There will be a whole combination of different ways to obtain your ticket because we’re keen to avoid everyone turning up the ground on Monday and massive queues forming - as we need to adhere to all the current Covid guidelines.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the tickets are snapped up. I just can’t wait for that first game of the season against Yeovil Town on August 21. I’ve now been to about a dozen games at the Racecourse, but none with fans.

Looking forward to that changing!

We’ve said many times before that we want to make our ground a fortress this season and there won’t be a ground in this division that is more regularly sold out or more raucous. It’s a shame we can’t fill The Kop but that’s our project for the future and can you imagine what it will be like when we have fans behind the goal at the famous Town End part of the stadium?

It’s no secret that we have plans to redevelop the Kop where fans can re-live all the memories of years gone by - including the super 1977/78 season and Mickey Thomas’ goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

There is some news on the Kop and that is about the barriers on the terrace.

There was some debate about who owned them but after talks with Glyndwr University, we have come to the arrangement that the money from any Kop barriers that are sold will go into the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust funds.

Back to the present and I’d like to welcome Jake Hyde to the club - I think he’s a striker the fans are going to like, especially when he’s banging in the goals next season!

Jake was being tracked by a number of clubs but once Phil Parkinson had given his pitch, Wrexham was his number one choice. It was a signing we were very happy to make.

Finally, the Olympics is underway and from everyone at Wrexham Football Club we’re wishing the North Wales trio of Jade Jones, Vicky Thornley and Hector Pardoe the very best of British luck!
