WREXHAM missed out on a play-off place after drawing 1-1 against Dagenham and Redbridge at Victoria Road.

The Reds, who played most of the second half with 10 men following the dismissal of substitute Paul Rutherford, went into the game with their destiny in their own hands.

But after coming from behind to draw with the Daggers, Dean Keates' side dropped out of the top-seven because of results elsewhere.

Two play-off places were up for grabs and they went to Chesterfield and Bromley, with Wrexham now contemplating a 14th season in non-league after the promotion dream came to an end.

Keates made one change from the side that started the 5-3 win over King's Lynn the previous weekend.

Jay Harris was ruled out through injury so James Horsfield came into the Reds' midfield for his first appearance since appearing as a substitute in the 4-1 win over Wealdstone on February 27.

Wrexham made a bright start and Shaun Pearson headed onto the roof of net from Luke Young's second minute corner.

Reece Hall-Johnson's superb ball across the face of goal just needed a touch from a team-mate but Dagenham then took control and were on top for the rest of the first half.

Shaun Pearson made a vital block to keep out Callum Reynolds' goalbound effort and William Wright's free-kick found the side-netting

With Wrexham put under more pressure, the Daggers fired another warning shot as Paul McCallum failed to steer his header on target from Angelo Balanta's cross.

Jordan Davies fired wide at the other end as the Reds reached the break happy to be on level terms having seen Dagenham create the better chances and look the more likely side to break the deadlock.

Rutherford replaced James Horsfield for the start of the second half but the Daggers scored the goal they had been threatening in the 51st minute.

Balanta fed Wright who crossed from by-line and McCallum pounced from close range with the ball going in off Fiacre Kelleher.

But Wrexham's task was made even harder after 56 minutes when Rutherford was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Matt Robinson just outside the Daggers penalty area.

Keates made a double substitution with Dan Jarvis and Dior Angus replacing Kelleher and Gold Omotayo as the Reds switched to a back-four.

Saidou Khan wasn't far away for the Daggers with a shot from outside the area that fell narrowly wide but Wrexham found themselves out of the play-offs before making one final push.

Cameron Green brought a save out of Elliott Justham before the Reds equalised in the 90th minute.

Jarvis ran at goal and fed Reece Hall-Johnson whose cross was converted by Ponticelli.

But the winner never came and Wrexham were left to reflect on a missed opportunity.
