HE hit it off with Kwame Thomas and Dior Angus now hopes he builds another productive partnership with Gold Omotayo.

Angus and Omotayo are expected to again be paired up front for tomorrow's clash against Woking at The Kingfield Stadium when Wrexham will aim to build on Tuesday’s brilliant 4-0 win against Halifax.

Dean Keates has added to his attacking options after top scorer Kwame Thomas ruptured his Achilles in training and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and Jordan Ponticelli is still missing.

Omotayo came in for his first start at The Shay and he set-up Angus for the second goal.

Angus, who struck for the fifth time since joining Wrexham in the transfer window, has missed playing alongside a recognised striker in the absence of Thomas and he hailed Omotayo’s contribution.

“Me and Kwame started to build a good partnership but that’s the way it goes,” said Angus.

“Gold stepped in against Halifax and he looks that Kwame-type player that we have missed for the last two or three games.

“He did well for my goal, he sucked the defenders in and I just played off the back of him so it was all good.”

Wrexham opened the scoring after just four minutes and the goals kept on coming with Jordan Davies bagging a hat-trick as the Reds led 4-0 at half-time.

That’s how it stayed as Wrexham ended a run of three successive defeats when Keates’ side had made bright starts to games but failed to take their chances.

“Anyone that starts games quick at this level and gets an early goal, you tend to dominate and put teams to bed,” said Angus. “And we did that.

“We just need to keep doing that moving forward.

“At Notts County we made a bright start and probably deserved to walk away with a draw, and we started well against Stockport.

“But they got that early goal and that allowed them to dominate the game from then on in.

“That’s what we have got to be doing. Start games well and take our chances when we can because we have been defending well.”

Clinical finishing put Wrexham well in control at the break and Angus added: “It was nice to see.

“It takes pressure off the lads at the back; it is not likely it is going to be a backs against the wall job and it allows you take your foot off the gas a little bit because it always happens when you have a strong first half.

“The second half is never the same, and we just saw it out well.”

Wrexham slipped out of the play-offs after 1-0 defeats to Notts County and Torquay, and last Saturday’s 3-0 loss against Stockport.

But victory enabled the Reds to leapfrog Halifax into seventh position and with nine games remaining in the push for promotion, Angus is hoping for more of the same in the run-in.

“It was a much needed win,” said Angus.

“I think the Notts County and Torquay defeats were a kick in the teeth because we conceded late on.

“Stockport was one of them where we got out-played, but it was a really good response against Halifax and the lads showed a lot of character which is good.

“We have just got to look forward to the next nine games now.”

Ponticelli could again be missing with a hamstring injury when Wrexham face 19th placed Woking while Keates will also check on goalkeeper Rob Lainton who has a groin problem.

But centre-back Theo Vassell, who suffered a head injury in the defeat at Notts County a fortnight ago, remains sidelined.

“We will have to wait and see with Jordan and Rob,” said Keates.

“Theo is a definite no.

“As it stands at the moment, he is still suffering with concussion with what happened at Notts County.”

Jay Harris comes into contention after serving a two-match suspension but fellow midfielder Elliott Durrell this week had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
