DEAN KEATES insists tonight’s clash against Halifax is not “season-defining” but he accepts Wrexham need to get something out of their showdown at The Shay to give the promotion challenge a boost.

The Reds go into the game on the back of three successive defeats, the latest a 3-0 reversal at the hands of Stockport on Saturday.

The hat-trick of losses has seen Wrexham drop down to eight position, three points adrift of the play-offs, with Halifax occupying the final place in the top-seven.

There are 10 games remaining and Keates insists there is still everything to play for.

“I wouldn’t say it was season-defining at all,” said Keates.

“We have got to go there and we have got to get something, and we will go for three points.

“We have got 10 games left, we have got a quarter of the season left; there are 30 points to play for and we will do our best to get the 30 points.

“They are all big ones.

“We will regroup and make sure that we go out and do our best for this football club.”

All three defeats have come against teams around Wrexham in the table.

The barren run has come at a crucial stage in the season as the race for promotion hots up and Keates hopes his side get it out of the system quickly.

“It couldn’t be (a worse time) but any time losing football matches is bad,” said Keates.

“We have got a quarter left of the season and we have got a chance to turn it around.

“You would rather lose a couple of games now than going into six games left, you are right in the mix and then the rug gets pulled from under your feet.

“We have got an opportunity on Tuesday night against somebody who we need to chase down, we have to go there and do our best for this football club to get three points.

“We need to stop the rot and put something in place to go and build on going into the last nine games.”
