WREXHAM suffered a third successive defeat as they lost 3-0 against Stockport County following a dreadful performance at The Racecourse.

Dean Keates' side were well beaten by fourth placed Stockport and the Reds remain eighth in the National League but are now three points away from the play-offs with 10 games to go.

Keates was eager to bolster his attacking options and he completed three new signings ahead of the fixture.

Winger Keanu Marsh-Brown and strikers Gold Omotayo and Chris Sang have all joined Wrexham on non-contract terms and were included in the match-day squad.

Marsh Brown was handed a starting role up front alongside Dior Angus, coming into the team in place of the suspended Jay Harris in the only change from the side that started Monday's 1-0 defeat to Torquay, with Omotayo and Sang both included among the substitutes.

An early Jordan Davies header from Jamie Reckord's corner was scrambled clear by Stockport and Wrexham, on the front foot, continued their bright start.

Davies threaded a brilliant pass through to Marsh-Brown whose shot was blocked by a defender, and another effort by the new signing was saved by keeper Ben Hinchcliffe as Wrexham remained on the front foot.

But Stockport took a 14th minute lead against the run of play.

Hinchliffe's long clearance was headed on and former Wrexham striker Alex Reid got in between Tyler French and Christian Dibble to slot past the Reds' goalkeeper.

And Stockport made it 2-0 after 25 minutes as they capitalised on Fiacre Kelleher's loose pass.

Tom Walker's cross from the left was flicked on by Harry Cardwell and Reid converted from close range.

Davies fired wide but Wrexham almost conceded a third goal after failing to clear the danger with Dibble making a superb save to deny Paddy Madden.

The Reds failed to make any headway in the second half and Keates made his first change on 57 minutes with Omotayo replacing Marsh-Brown.

Jamie Reckord headed against the post from Luke Young's corner with Wrexham's best chance but Stockport took a 3-0 lead after 70 minutes.

Reece Hall-Johnson brought down Macauley Southam-Hales in the area following a quick County break from a Wrexham corner and ex-Reds midfielder John Rooney put away the resulting penalty.

Reid, looking for his hat-trick, shot wide as Stockport pressed for more goals while Paul Rutherford came on for Dan Jarvis with 12 minutes to go.

Former Reds' left-back James Jennings went close with a free-kick but Stockport had already done more than enough as they maintained their promotion challenge and put a dent in Wrexham's hopes for a top-seven finish.
