ALEX REID was brought in to score goals and the striker has delivered.

The 25-year-old joined Stockport on a free transfer from Stevenage in the summer, putting pen to paper on a one year deal at Edgeley Park.

A frontman with a lot of experience in the National League, Reid has scored 11 league goals this season and he was also on target as County upset Rochdale in the FA Cup.

Reid, who has had loan spells in the fifth tier with Solihull, Fylde, Ebbsfleet and Dagenham as well as tomorrow's opponents Wrexham, is benefitting from being tied down on a permanent deal.

“I am really enjoying my football and my time at Stockport,” said Reid.

“It’s been a difficult period for me because I have been floating around the league going here, there and everywhere on loan.

“When you are on loan, you are in one place for three or four months, you go back to your parent club and then you could be out somewhere else.

"It’s disruptive, it is better to have a home and play games, and I have done okay so far."

After becoming an apprentice at Walsall, Reid joined Swedish club Ånge IF in 2014, before returning to England to play for Solihull Moors the following year.

Reid then had a prolific spell with Rushall Olympic in the Northern Premier League and he signed for Fleetwood Town in January 2017 following a successful trial.

During his time at Fleetwood, Reid had loan spells in the National League with Wrexham and Solihull during the 2017-18 season prior to joining Stevenage in July 2018.

While at Stevenage, Reid had stints on loan at AFC Fylde, Dagenham & Redbridge and Ebbsfleet United.
