KWAME THOMAS knows in-form Sutton will be gunning for revenge but the striker insists Wrexham can complete the double over the U’s if they “put together a 90 minute performance”.

Dean Keates’ side go into tomorrow’s clash at Gander Green Lane on the back of a 4-1 victory over Wealdstone.

Trailing 1-0 following a poor first-half performance, Wrexham were on the front foot after the interval and were rewarded for some superb attacking play with four goals which took the Reds up to fifth in the National League.

But Thomas, who bagged a brace in the win to take his tally for the season to eight goals, admits Wrexham will need to repeat that display from the start against high-flying Sutton.

The U’s beat Bromley 3-2 on Tuesday to make it five victories in a row and Matt Gray’s men will also be desperate to make amends for November’s 4-0 thrashing by Wrexham at The Racecourse - their heaviest defeat of the campaign.

“We have got to be happy to be in the play-off places but as the manager always tells us, we run our own race,” said Thomas.

“The table says what it says but we have our aims as a squad. If, for example, we have got five games in a month, we know how many points we want to get from them five games.

“There is still a lot to play for and we just need to be consistent.

“We can’t afford to have a first half like we had against Wealdstone, we need to start consistently putting 90 minutes together.

“We are on a good run with just one defeat in nine games so we have got to keep it going. It’s good to go into Sutton after a positive result.

“It won’t be an easy game because they are in good form and they are a good team, and they will definitely have in their minds when we beat them 4-0 here.

“For those two reasons it will make it a difficult game and we have to make sure we put together a 90 minute performance and not just a 45 minute performance.”

Thomas scored twice when Wrexham registered their biggest win of the season against Sutton.

Although he would love to add to his tally tomorrow and continue the rich vein of form which saw him score five times in February, the striker doesn’t care who finds the back of the net as long as the Reds win.

“I am a striker and I want to score goals regardless of the game,” said Thomas.

“It doesn’t quite work that just because I scored twice against them before, I will do it again.

“The biggest thing for me as always is winning the game.

“Whoever scores, I don’t really care as long as we get three points.”

The game is being televised live by BT Sport but Thomas is treating it no differently.

“It is great that it is on television but for us players it doesn’t really make a difference,” said Thomas.

“We just go there to perform and get the result but it is good for the fans that they can watch it on television.”

Strike partner Dior Angus was also on target in the win over Wealdstone, scoring for the second time since joining from Barrow on transfer deadline day in the winter window.

The Bluebirds were no strangers to playing in front of the live television cameras last season when they clinched the National League title, but Angus insists he treats the game no differently and he just wants to build on Saturday’s win over the Stones.

“We were on quite a bit and we were due to be on even more,” said Angus, referring to the campaign being suspended last March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is always nice when the cameras are there to show people what we are about but we just keep going about our business and it takes care of itself.

“It is another game that we want to win and I am looking forward to it.

“It won’t be easy. It is always tough on the astroturf but if we put in a performance like we did in the second half against Wealdstone from the start, we win the game.”
