WREXHAM supporters have backed the decision to introduce an added financial incentive in Wrexham's push for promotion and they hope it has the desired effect.

Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds completed their takeover of the club last month and have created a Players Bonus Scheme.

Those that play in any game will now receive £200 for each win and £50 for a draw, as long as Wrexham remain in a play-off position, and a bonus pot of £250,000 if promotion is achieved this season.

The first match since the incentive was announced was on Saturday and Wrexham, trailing 1-0 at home to Wealdstone following a poor first half, turned things around after the break to win 4-1, taking Dean Keates' side up to fifth in the National League.

Although fans welcomed having bonuses for players, something that is commonplace at football clubs, many questioned the decision to release the actual figures.

WRARTIN: "Most of them know they won’t be retained at end of season under new ownership, so it’s a neat way to motivate the team to give their all for the club for the remainder of the season. Don’t understand why they made it public though."

DAVID MCMAHON: "Why shouldn’t it be known? I’m all in favour of it and it clearly had the desired effect at half time on Saturday. Time to take the power back with new owners. DK is the current rudder on the ship, he’s not the engine or the ship."

JEFF LAING: "Bonuses should be based on final league positions, not on a game to game basis."

BEN WHITE: "It’s a sound strategy as if you win enough games for it to start costing significant money then you’re likely going up or at minimum a high seed in the playoffs. Also think publicly it’s a smart move to entice players for next season. Money talks."

ALUN ROBERTS: "Good to see the players being rewarded for results but believe that the amounts should have been kept in house."

ALAN JONES: "They shouldn't need incentives. They're well paid to do a job that they should automatically be giving 100% to."

DEJA SONEN: "It's not fan owned now so no need to release details. Under fan ownership we had right to know. (although often didn't)."

CARL: "It would come out in the documentary anyway so might as well announce it - also takes some pressure of Keates as the players can't blame anyone for lack of motivation!"

ALAN JONES: "It’s only until the end of this season so maybe next season bonus scheme will stay in house but it’s good to see it being put in place."

HONEZ: "I think the specific bonuses shouldn’t be public info, but anything which rewards attacking play, points, and getting out of this league is a welcome positive. It shows our club’s renewed intent that mediocrity is no longer the Wrexham way. #MaximumEffort at all times."

SHAUN: "Yes its an extra incentive to the players and its another tool in place to give us the best chance of success, we have lived on the breadline for long enough, let's have a proper go hey!"

JULIE BIRRELL: "The will to win and their professionalism should mean the players won’t try any harder just to get a bonus. However, it’s a nice reward for success."

KEITH DAVIES: "I’m all for incentives, not sure they should get a bonus for a draw. Win or nothing for me. Glad it’s only while we are in the play-off places. The lads are lucky to have played more games to get the points to put us in the places."

GEORGE JONES: "I think it is a very good incentive for the team to win, although you could argue other teams are going to put up more of a fight against us now, they already do anyway so I think the new bonus scheme is entirely positive."

WREXHAM IS THE NAME: "Will be more determination to win games so I think it’s a good thing."

JOE: "Nothing wrong with it, most clubs do it so why not us, we want to improve and that’s what clubs higher up do. Don’t think it should’ve been public knowledge to the amount they’ll be getting though."

DREW: "Looking at it from the reverse, Keates has already said he’s “looking at one or two” - maybe the knowledge of extra £s being available could be a tempter ?"

MOTHER T: "I think it gives us an opportunity to push on. This does all depend on tactics. I also think this should have been kept in house."

CON: "Whilst I think it’s nice for our players to be paid extra I can’t help but think it’ll just encourage other clubs to try just as hard, maybe I’d have just preferred the actual cash amount to be kept secret."

MAL: "If we didn’t have the money to afford to pay the players we wouldn’t do it. I don’t see the problem with it, and I appreciate the continued transparency of the club with the fans. Hopefully it’s not all for nothing though."

INDY WALES IS COMING: "Great idea. Clubs have had them for years and everyone likes a performance bonus."

DENTON REDS: "If it helps put food on the table, it can only be a good thing."

PONCIAU 1: "Had desired effect on Saturday, I hope it continues."

ACH56: "It’s the players pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Get the club promoted and have a share of the £250k. Fantastic incentive from the owners. Good start on Saturday (2nd half)."

WREX-PAT IN USA: "If bonus schemes are commonplace it begs the question why didn’t we have one already? I think it’s smart from the new owners - if we can’t strengthen from outside, let’s try to get as much out of the squad that we have."

JAMIE: "It’s a good thing but it’s like giving a bin man an extra tenner for every bin he collects. Their jobs are to win games and now they are being given extra money to do their jobs? It’s a nice incentive but they should already be committing 110% in the first place."
