WREXHAM scored four times in the second half to come from behind and beat Wealdstone 4-1 at The Racecourse.

Dean Keates' side produced a poor performance in the opening period and trailed at the break.

However, top scorer Kwame Thomas bagged a brace with Luke Young and Dior Angus also on target after the break as the Reds turned things around.

The only blemish in the second half was Theo Vassell given his marching order after he was shown a second yellow card with Wrexham finishing the game with 10 men.

Victory took Wrexham up to fifth in the National League ahead of next Saturday's trip to highflying Sutton United.

Keates made two changes from the side that drew 0-0 against Hartlepool in midweek.

Centre-back Vassell, who missed the previous seven games with an ankle injury, came back in along with Elliott Durrell, handed his first start since the 2-0 defeat at Stockport in the final game of 2020, with Reece Hall-Johnson and Dan Jarvis missing out.

Tyler French switched from the centre of defence to cover for Hall-Johnson, who picked up an injury against Pools, at right wing-back with Durrell a straight swap for Jarvis in midfield.

Wrexham almost took a third minute lead as Jamie Reckord's corner was missed by Harry Isted and struck the far post but the ball rebounded to the grateful Stones goalkeeper.

Jacob Mendy fired wide for the Stones while Vassell and Reckord both failed to hit the target with Reds efforts.

The lively Mendy was unable to test Christian Dibble and an unmarked Danny Green should have done better but he headed wide with the goal at his mercy after meeting Dennis Lewis' cross.

However, the Stones took the lead in the 34th minute.

Michee Efete's header from Green's corner struck the post and Danny Parish slotted home from close range.

Wrexham rallied and Fiacre Kelleher got a touch to Luke Young's free-kick but Isted made a smart block and the goalkeeper also made a comfortable save to deny Dior Angus.

The first half ended with Jordan Davies's deflected shot falling wide but Wrexham were back on level terms just one minute after the restart.

Tyler French delivered the ball into the area and Thomas converted for his seventh goal of the season.

Wrexham, playing much better than in the opening period, went 2-1 up after 53 minutes with a goal straight off the training ground.

Reckord played his corner out to Young whose powerful drive from just inside the box went in off the bar.

Angus brought a save out of Isted as Wrexham continued to press and the Reds scored a third goal in the 68th minute.

Angus crossed to the back post where Thomas nodded into the net.

Wrexham were reduced to 10 men on 71 minutes when Vassell was shown his second yellow card following a poor challenge but the Reds soon bagged a fourth goal as the hard-working Angus scored with a low drive after 75 minutes.

The Reds kept going for more goals and Thomas was denied a hat-trick in added time as he headed against the post.
