JORDAN DAVIES admits nothing else than a win will do when Wrexham face lowly Wealdstone tomorrow to give the promotion push a boost.

The Reds climbed up to sixth place in the National League after going on a six-game unbeaten run but Dean Keates’ side suffered a setback on Saturday when they suffered their biggest defeat of the season in losing 3-0 to Aldershot.

Looking to bounce back at home to high-flying Hartlepool in midweek, Wrexham failed to have a single shot on target as they played out a goalless draw.

Back at The Racecourse for the visit of the 19th placed Stones, the Reds occupy the final play-off spot but Davies know these are the kind of games where they need to pick up three points to maintain a promotion challenge.

“It has to be a win,” said Davies.

“We have got to attack tomorrow with nothing else than three points in our minds

“Wealdstone at home, for a club like Wrexham it has to be three points.

“We have got to be ruthless. We want to be a top side so we can’t let anything affect that against lower sides like Aldershot.

“They were big dropped points so tomorrow we have to take the game to them.

“If we want to be in the play-offs at the end of the season, we have to beat teams near the bottom of the table.

“Wealdstone have had a poor run of form so three points is the plan.”

Wrexham were looking to get the Aldershot defeat out of the system against Pool but only had two half chances to show for their efforts, Davies coming ‘closest’ to scoring when his shot was deflected wide for a corner early in the second half.

“After Saturday we just wanted to bounce back,” said Davies.

“Sometimes you just have to grind it out and it was one of those games.

“Hartlepool are a good side and we didn’t get beat so there were a few positives.

“We know we need to be better with the ball but it was a positive result against a top team without being at our best.”

Although they never got the win they were looking for, Davies was pleased with the way Wrexham defended after being put under late pressure as Pools pushed for a winner.

“There were a lack of chances from us,” said Davies.

“They were on top in the first half and we went toe to toe with them in the second half without really creating too much. Their goalkeeper didn’t have anything to do.

“Some days it goes like that but we stuck together and we got a clean sheet.

“They created a few things but big Kels (Fiacre Kelleher) defended really well and as a back five it was good.”

Davies, who hails from Coedpoeth, started his career at his home-town club and returned to The Racecourse in the summer after leaving Brighton and Hove Albion.

Whilst he was at Wrexham’s academy, Davies was seen as a left-back but he played in more advanced roles during his stint with the Seagulls who he joined in January 2017.

Since rejoining the Reds, Davies has been used in a number of roles by Keates this season - he deputised for Jamie Reckord in the left wing-back role and also filled in at centre-half for one game - but is currently being used as a centre-midfielder.

The 22-year-old admits he is enjoying playing in his preferred position.

“I am loving getting a run in the side in midfield,” added Davies.

“I have had a few difficult games where it has been hard to get on the ball in midfield but that is where I belong.

“I was covering in other positions whilst people were out injured but midfield is where I belong and I am glad I am getting a chance in there.

“When I get up the pitch I can be creative; one of my main attributes is being creative in and around the box so if the ball falls for me, I will create things or I will score some goals but I am happy just to be playing.”
