DIXIE MCNEIL led the tributes to Dai Davies who he described as a "terrific goalkeeper" and "my brother".

Welsh football legend Davies has passed away at the age of 72.

Davies, who played for Wrexham, Everton, Swansea and Tranmere, was diagnoised with terminal pancreatic cancer last year, and was treated at the Royal Hospital in Liverpool before being moved to the Nightingale Hospice in Wrexham.

McNeil became team-mates with Davies when the duo arrived at The Racecourse in 1977 and they became very close.

"He was a terrific goalkeeper, there is no two ways about that," said McNeil.

"An international goalkeeper and he talked really well at the back.

"As we signed together and they put us in a room together, we became good mates and for me, he was my lost brother in the sense that I don't have any brothers or sisters but he was my brother.

"We have always been close even after we finished playing and it is just really sad that he has passed away."
