REECE HALL-JOHNSON believes the takeover of Wrexham Football Club will have a positive effect on events on the pitch.

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are expected to be confirmed as the new owners at The Racecourse this week.

Takeover talk has captured the imagination of people around the world but Reece Hall-Johnson insists the Reds players have just been focused on doing their job.

Saturday’s 3-1 win against Dover Athletic took Wrexham up to eighth place in the National League and the right wing-back is hoping the high profile takeover and more wins will go hand in hand.

“Everyone else knows just as much as we know. We just keep our head down and get on with the football,” said Hall-Johnson, who joined Wrexham in the summer after leaving Northampton.

“It is always going to be a positive when the takeover happens.

“I didn’t expect anything like this to happen when I signed at the start of the season, it is exciting and it is a positive for the area.

“We go out there and try to win games but the takeover will be good for us and hopefully kick us on.”

Hall-Johnson played a starring role as Wrexham beat bottom of the table Dover in their opening game of 2021.

A huge attacking threat down the right flank, Hall-Johnson cut inside and ran into the area before finding the net with his left foot to put Wrexham 1-0 up.

“The gaffer said get out there and do your thing, and thankfully it came off,” said Hall-Johnson.

“I run at people at lot in training and try to make things happen.

“Sometimes I lose it, sometimes I don’t. I am just grateful that I could get a shot off and it went in.”

That was Hall-Johnson’s third goal of the season and he wants more.

“I had a lot of joy down the right,” said Hall-Johnson.

“It is not always like that but when you do, hopefully you have an end product and I did on one attempt which I was happy with.

“That is three goals now and I am aiming to get a few more to help the team; if I continue chipping in and we keep winning games, we will be at the right end of the table.”

Wrexham played their first game for nearly three weeks with two matches postponed because of positive coronavirus tests in the Reds' ranks.

Enforced breaks due to the pandemic have been a feature of the campaign and Hall-Johnson stressed the importance of Dean Keates' side returning to action with a much needed win.

“It has been a frustrating season with the Covid breaks and not getting any fans in,” said Hall-Johnson.

“We had a couple of weeks off before the Dover game and it was a big one for us. Thankfully we got three points.

“We are sitting just outside the play-offs so all we can do is keep picking up the points and keep trying to put the pressure on.”

Wrexham, who registered a first ever home win against bogey side Dover, are only outside the play-off places on goal difference.

Hall-Johnson refuses to get carried away and knows Wrexham, who face Chesterfield at The Technique Stadium on Saturday, need to build on the victory to stay in the promotion mix.

“You can’t get too high with one win,” said Hall-Johnson.

“The aim is to get a bit of a run going and if we do that, we will give ourselves a good chance this season.”
