SHAUN PEARSON is looking forward to an exciting future following the takeover of Wrexham Football Club - both as a player and someone who lives in the town.

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are on the verge of completing a deal to become new owners at The Racecourse with the actors vowing to invest £2million immediately.

That financial backing will be a huge boost as Wrexham, currently spending a 13th season in non-league, aim to challenge for promotion.

Influential captain Pearson, who has been with the Reds since the summer of 2017, would love to extend his stay and be part of that exciting journey.

And having set up home in the town with his family, Pearson can sense the excitement in the local community since it emerged that Reynolds and McElenney wanted to buy the club.

"I have two separate heads with it," said Pearson.

"It is a great club anyway but with the prospect of the improvements that they will bring, it could be even better to move forward with it if they want me to be part of that.

"Secondly, I look at it as somebody who lives in the town and the community, and just sees the potential and the excitement that it brings to the whole town.

"Hopefully as times get a little bit better, people will be able to come together and enjoy what is going to happen."

Wrexham have earned global publicity due to the high profile of their owners-elect but Pearson is concentrating on events on the pitch as the Reds aim to kick-start their National League season with victory at home to Dover tomorrow.

"Once it goes through, it will be good just to put that to bed so people can just focus on us trying to have the best season we can, and just concentrate on that," added Pearson.

"Then as things change behind the scenes and whatever else, we can deal with that as we go along."
