SUPPORTERS believe changes are needed if Wrexham are going to challenge for promotion in the new year.

The Reds suffered a 2-0 defeat at Stockport County in the final game of 2020 and are 12th in the National League, two points off the play-offs but 18 behind leaders Torquay who have played two games more than Dean Keates' side.

The takeover of the club by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney is expected to be completed in January and fans believe a change in the management team is key to keeping the promotion dream alive when the duo take control at The Racecourse.

Supporters were asked: Can Wrexham win promotion and where does the squad need strengthening in January?

JAMES MULLEN: "They can. But they need to strengthen from the top. New manager and new backroom staff. Not much faith if the takeover isn’t completed by then."

ACH56: "No club dominating so 2 places up for grabs. Reading the thread it’s obvious what needs doing. No doubt R&R along with @PeterMooreLFC have already identified the problem. Hope the Cowley brothers are in place before the end of January and resign Brad Walker."

HIPHIPHOORAY: "No chance with this manager, coaches and players, may as well clear out the dead wood in readiness for a proper challenge next season. But R&R should have the new manager in place in January to start the rebuild and to prevent Keates & Co getting us relegated!"

PETE JONES: "New management team would be a good start, nice guys but not good enough in my opinion, please don’t spend a penny until a new team's in place."

ALED: "Not with the current management team. Hard to gauge the quality in the squad due to negative tactics and no plan B."

TOM BLACKMAN: "The squad needs strengthening in the management area."

JAMES DURKIN: "Not a chance with Keates, Davies and Darlington in charge. Hopefully the new owners will bring in a new management team to take the club forward."

SIMON COOKE: "I believe we can make promotion with this squad. The first replacement I’d make would be the manager."

PAUL EDWARDS: "It’s not the playing staff that I’m concerned about. The coaching staff is plainly not up to the standard that we need to get us out of this terrible league."

ROBERT WILLIAMS: "Unless this takeover happens on the right side of January, no chance of promotion."

JOHN HUMPHREYS: "Hopefully a new management team and new ceo with fresh ideas and start games on the front foot instead of negative ‘Keates ball’. Also the squad is very poor in the important areas so a few quality additions and anything can happen."

JONA DEVITT: "I don’t think they can. There’s very little faith in the back room team. Tactics are stale and predictable. There’s no point signing players to ruin until that’s addressed. The trophy should have been given higher priority too. Another wasted season."

DICKIE: "Number one priority has to be a new competent management team with an objective to play attractive attacking football."

BARRY DANIELS: "It's the management that needs strengthening not the squad!"

MICHAEL DAVIES: "Yes we can, if we change the manager."

RICHIE VARKER: "Only if a new manager comes in and is allowed to bring in his own coaching staff! Clean sweep is needed on all the football side of the club."

MIKE LEWIS: "The league is wide open, need a forward and a centre midfielder to go with Harris and young."

MAT EVANS: "There’s definitely some really good players in the team this season. We do have the ability to score goals which has been a problem for a some years but serious doubts about the coaching team. Not consistent enough."

MATTY: "With a good run from February-May we can sneak into the play offs. But for that to happen we need to overhaul the management team and sign two quality strikers. If we don't do that, then we're going to be sliding the other way."

DAZ JONES: "100%, new management team, new striker, creative midfielder and new winger."

SEAN PRINCE: " It’s been a crazy year! I see no reason why we can’t get promotion, let’s see what January brings!"
