HUW GRIFFITHS is eagerly anticipating his return to The Rock as current club Caernarfon face former side Cefn Druids.

Griffiths left his role as sporting director back in January, and since then Druids and Caernarfon have only gone head-to-head at The Oval - both sides with a record of won one, lost one.

The experienced Griffiths has returned to The Rock since his departure on a scouting mission, but he’s yet to take his place in the away dugout - until Tuesday night.

“I’m really looking forward to going back,” said Griffiths. “I am a supporter of Cefn Druids and it will be good to see the progress that’s been made at the club since I left. It will also be great to see some old faces.”

Two familiar faces missing Griffiths’ return are Graham Jones and Julie Kenmuir, who have both sadly passed away in recent weeks.

“I was close to them both,” said Griffiths. “I want to pass on my condolences to both Julie and Graham’s family, who myself and my family spent a lot of time with. I went on two European trips with Graham and they are times that I will cherish.

“And I will miss Julie either giving me a bit of stick or telling me she misses me. Julie would always tell me what she was happy with, or not happy with.”

And while Griffiths will be back in familiar territory, he knows there’s a job to do with vital points at stake.

“It’s a big game for both clubs,” said Griffiths, whose side are a wounded animal after a 6-0 thumping at Penybont.

“If Druids can win then they will be latching onto the group above them, while if we win we can start to look up.

“Druids have been playing well without picking up results, and we are without a win in seven matches.”

Penybont won’t be able to build on their thumping of Caernarfon after tonight’s trip to Newtown was shelved after a positive Covid-19 test in the Robins’ camp.

A statement from Newtown confirmed: “Newtown Football Club can, unfortunately, confirm that we have received a positive COVID-19 test in the camp.

“We have followed strict guidelines from the Welsh Government and the FAW since the outbreak of the virus and will continue to do so as we now enter a period of isolation.

“The club have been in constant communication with the FAW and have notified all of the appropriate authorities.

“We would like to wish a speedy recovery to those affected, and we hope to be back soon.”

A statement from the league followed, which added: “NHS Wales’ Test, Trace and Protect Service have today informed the Newtown squad who faced Cardiff Met on Tuesday, December 1 to self-isolate until the 16th of the month, following a positive case for COVID-19.

“The Robins’ next three games in the Cymru Premier against Penybont, Aberystwyth and The New Saints have been postponed and will be re-arranged as soon as possible.”

Haverfordwest County’s home game with Barry Town United will go ahead as scheduled this evening.
