HOW chilling must it feel to Wrexham fans that their Halloween encounter 22 years ago was against a team now playing Premier League football.

Burnley have since gone on to become an established top-flight club but there's been some ghastly goings-on in north Wales where once-proud Wrexham have reached the depths of despair in non-league.

Defender Dave Ridler hit The Reds leveller at Turf Moor in 1998 but The Clarets' Andy Payton sank his teeth into Wrexham with a deadly double.

But looking back at how Wrexham have fared on October 31, there have definitely been more treats than trick.

That loss at Burnley was one of just three defeats in 17 games played on this day.

In the net-bulging days of old, Wrexham hit four goals on four occasions, kicking off with a 4-3 thriller at York City in 1936.

In 1964, Martyn King scored twice with Arfon Griffiths and Ernie Phythian also on target in a 4-1 home win over Stockport County.

Six years later and Reds legend Griffiths popped up with another goal alongside Ray Smith (2) and one courtesy of visitors, Plymouth Argyle in a 4-0 Racecourse rout.

The latest fab four came in 2015 against last season's National League champions, Barrow when Wes York and Connor Jennings both fired doubles in a 4-1 success.
